What is Abir?

From its inception in 2008, ABIR Mas has been consistently delivering an exciting Dutty Mas experience for Notting Hill Carnival. We strive to meet the needs of our masqueraders in a safe, fun-filled and joyous atmosphere by celebrating the positive aspects of LIFE through the use of paint, powder, dance and soca music.

Abir Mas on Notting Hill Carnival Sunday captures the spirit of Jouvert – where getting covered in coloured body paint, and coloured gulal powder, represents freedom, release, transformation and the joy of celebrating life together. As the festivities unfold, vibrant bursts of ABIR powder – adding another layer of colour and celebration, giving a subtle nod to the rich multicultural heritage of Trinidad and Tobago in Pagwah or Holi from the Hindu Culture.

The colours symbolise unity, equality and happiness, as everyone is covered in the same vibrant hues regardless of age, background or status.

It is a welcoming, safe and inclusive experience that encourages self-expression and togetherness, inviting everyone to embrace the energy, creativity and joy that Carnival represents.
